The permanent check dam of Andhergarh drain has become a hope for the farmers, 12.5 acres of fields will get irrigation support.

  • MNREGA’s strong move: A concrete check dam in Andhergarh Nala will increase irrigation and boost farmers’ income.

The permanent check dam constructed in the Madisrai Gram Panchayat of Bharatpur Block under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) has today emerged as a powerful example of rural development, water conservation, and economic prosperity for farmers. This check dam, built on the Andhergarh drain, is not just a construction project but a strong foundation for a better future for the villagers, prosperity for farmers, and water security.
For a long time, much of the rainwater in the Madisrai Gram Panchayat had been flowing unused, exacerbating the water crisis during the summer season. Due to the lack of adequate water for irrigation, farmers had to limit their farming activities, impacting their income. To provide a permanent solution to this problem, the construction of a permanent check dam on the Andhergarh drain was approved through MNREGA.
This work generated 1,185 man-days, providing local employment to village laborers. This provided rural families with wages within the village and reduced the need for migration. The active participation of villagers during the construction work made this project an excellent example of public participation.

The construction of the check dam has made rainwater conservation possible, which is expected to improve groundwater levels. Most importantly, this structure will provide irrigation to approximately 12.5 acres of agricultural land. Farmers will no longer be solely dependent on rainfall; instead, timely irrigation will enable them to cultivate pulses, oilseeds, and other cash crops in addition to paddy. This will increase agricultural production and significantly boost farmers’ income.
This water conservation initiative is also crucial from an environmental perspective. Rainwater harvesting through the check dam will recharge groundwater, improve water availability in nearby wells and hand pumps, and reduce water scarcity. It will also control soil erosion and ensure the conservation of natural resources.
Village farmers say that previously, rainwater used to flow away quickly, but now, with the construction of the check dam, the water will be stopped, providing sufficient water for irrigation to the fields. This will reduce farming costs, increase production, and strengthen the family’s financial situation. Villagers have described this work as a significant achievement in the development of the village.

This permanent check dam, constructed under MNREGA, embodies the vision of rural development, which aims to create sustainable assets and empower villages to become self-reliant. While this work provided hundreds of man-days of employment, it will also provide farmers with permanent irrigation facilities for years to come.
This check dam in the Madisrai Gram Panchayat is proof that effective implementation of schemes with public participation can simultaneously achieve multiple goals, such as water conservation, agricultural development, employment generation, and rural prosperity. This permanent check dam, built on the Andhergarh drain, will become a strong foundation for future prosperity for farmers, improved agricultural production, and a self-reliant rural economy.
