- Directs Executive Engineers, Jail Superintendents and Contractors to expedite works by establishing better coordination

Secretary of Public Works Department, Mr. Mukesh Kumar Bansal reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction works in various jails of the state. In the meeting held today at PWD Headquarters ‘Nirman Bhawan’, he directed the Executive Engineers of the districts, Jail Superintendents and contractors to speed up the works by making better coordination and complete them soon. Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Mr. Himanshu Gupta and Chief Engineer of Public Works Department, Mr. V.K. Bhatphari also attended the meeting. Executive Engineers, contractors and Jail Superintendents of various divisions of Public Works Department joined the meeting through video conference.

In the meeting, the Secretary of the Public Works Department reviewed the ongoing construction of barracks, boundary walls, toilets, and watch towers in various prisons across the state. He inquired from departmental officials as well as the superintendents of all prisons about the pace and quality of construction work. He instructed the officials to regularly visit the work sites and strictly monitor the progress. He also asked the contractors to expedite the work and complete it on time, while ensuring the quality of construction materials and construction.
Mr. Bansal directed the Executive Engineers and Jail Superintendents to make proper arrangements for the transportation of construction materials within the jail premises, while keeping in mind the safety standards. He asked the Jail Superintendents to give the workers adequate time for work every day. Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Mr. Himanshu Gupta, said in the meeting that the jails are overcrowded. Construction of new barracks and expansion of existing facilities will provide relief. He asked the field officers of the Public Works Department, Jail Superintendents and contractors to work at a fast pace and complete the works within the stipulated time.

In the meeting, the Secretary of the Public Works Department reviewed the construction of parking shed, school shed, shed for visitors and relatives and toilets in Raipur Central Jail. He also reviewed the construction of a special jail with a capacity of 1500 in Nagoi, Bilaspur, boundary walls in district jails Dhamtari and Gariaband, barracks in district jails Janjgir, Ramanujganj, Surajpur, Kanker, Sanjari-Balod and sub-jail Sarangarh. The departmental secretary reviewed the work of increasing the height of the main wall in Kawardha sub-jail, construction of barracks and toilets for prisoners in Central Jails Ambikapur and Jagdalpur, construction of toilets in District Jail Dantewada, concertina wire fencing around the main walls and construction of watch tower in District Jail Sukma and construction of watch tower in sub-jail Bijapur and gave necessary instructions to the officials.
