A New Benchmark for Water Supply at the Gateway to Abujhmar

  • ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ Transforms the Landscape of Kachora Village

The commitment of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai to extend the benefits of basic amenities and government schemes to the remote regions of Chhattisgarh is yielding positive results. In Kachora—a village under the Mahora Gram Panchayat, located approximately 55 kilometers from the district headquarters of Narayanpur—the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ has ushered in a new chapter of convenience and prosperity for the residents. Under the able guidance of the District Collector, efforts are being made to ensure that development schemes reach the last person in the district; this remote village serves as a prime example of that initiative.

  • From the Struggle for Water to Tap Connections in Every Home

In this village, home to 24 families primarily dependent on agriculture, the challenging geographical terrain meant that residents—especially women—had to endure significant hardship and strenuous labor daily just to secure drinking water. As a permanent solution, a pipeline spanning approximately 2,084 meters was laid under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission,’ and two solar-powered water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 liters, were constructed. Today, all 24 families in the village have access to clean and safe drinking water through taps in their homes, saving both time and physical effort for the villagers.

  • ‘Har Ghar Jal Utsav’ Sparks a Commitment to Water Conservation

Following the successful completion of the project, a ‘Har Ghar Jal Utsav’ (Water in Every Home Celebration) was organized in the village with great enthusiasm. During a Gram Sabha held on this occasion, the villagers took a collective pledge—through a ‘Jal Arpan’ (Offering to Water) program—to conserve water sources, maintain cleanliness, and preserve every single drop of water. It was emphasized to the residents that, along with the convenience provided, the responsible use and maintenance of these water sources are essential to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the facility. Strengthening the Foundation of the Scheme through Public Participation

To ensure the scheme remains self-sustaining and functions smoothly, responsibilities have been delegated at the local level—encompassing the operation and maintenance of pumps, water quality testing, as well as monitoring and management. The success in Gram Kachora serves as a vivid testament to the fact that when government policy and local public participation converge, positive social and infrastructural transformation becomes possible—even in remote or challenging areas. The provision of pure, piped water to every household not only offers protection against diseases but also elevates the standard of living for villagers, bringing the vision of a strong, self-reliant village to fruition.
