Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla attended the 71st Foundation Day celebrations of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. He inaugurated a modern futsal sports arena at Gandhi Medical College, built in collaboration with alumni. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla said that health is one of the highest priorities of the government. Medical education and health infrastructure in the region is being continuously expanded. Seats for MBBS, PG and specialist medical education are being continuously increased. Health services at all three levels—primary, secondary and tertiary—are being strengthened and super specialty services are being expanded. He said that it is the government’s effort to provide state-of-the-art and specialist health services to the residents of the state. Health infrastructure and super specialty facilities are being continuously expanded so that no citizen needs to go out of the region for better treatment.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla said that the burden of diseases is increasing at present. Therefore, special attention is being given to preventive health care and prevention of diseases instead of being limited to the treatment of diseases. Efforts are being made to control the root causes of disease through healthy lifestyle, hygiene, nutrition and awareness. He said that efforts like Jal Jeevan Mission, strengthening natural farming and other basic services under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi are also doing important work towards controlling the root causes of diseases.
- The role of society and conscious citizens is important
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla said that social organizations, institutions and conscious citizens have an important role to play in making the government’s efforts more effective. The sense of service and social responsibility in the public mind is important in ensuring access to advanced health services to remote areas. Appreciating Gandhi Medical College Alumni Association’s continuous commitment and cooperation towards the institution, he said that the association of alumni with their institution is an inspiration for the new generation of students.
- Organ donation is a means of giving new life, whole society hota hai benefited
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla called upon all the citizens to take pledge of organ donation on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day. He said that organ donation is a means of giving new life to a needy person and it benefits the entire society. He expressed the need to raise awareness about organ donation and make this humanitarian campaign a mass movement. He said that honoring the contribution of the organ donor families is an inspiration for the society. Keeping this in mind, an initiative has been taken by the government to honor the donors with guard of honor and families on the occasions of Independence Day, Republic Day.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Shukla congratulated the present and past students, teachers, doctors of the institution on the occasion of the foundation day. He wished for continuous progress of Gandhi Medical College and establishment of new dimensions of excellent medical education and health services. He inaugurated the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board at GMC Bhopal. Also honored the students who performed well in the cleanliness awareness competition and appreciated their efforts.
- Important Role of Physicians in Expansion of Health Services: Minister of State Shri Patel
Minister of State for Public Health and Medical Education Shri Patel said that the government has no shortage of resources to expand health services in the region. Health services are being strengthened at a fast pace. He said that the role of doctors in this whole process is very important. He said that institutes like Gandhi Medical College are providing excellent doctors and specialists to the state. Along with the expansion of medical discipline, the responsibility of providing quality and sensitive health services to the patients also lies with the physicians. He called upon the doctors, teachers, students and health workers to discharge their duties with the spirit of service.
- Multidisciplinary tumor board innovation for cancer treatment
Dean of Gandhi Medical College Dr. Kavita Singh said that Cancer Multidisciplinary Tumor Board has been innovated by GMC. Under this, the specialist team of various departments related to cancer treatment will sit together and consider the case of the patient and decide a useful treatment strategy. He said this would resolve potential gaps in the opinions of various experts and ensure coordinated treatment for patients. The process of multi-disciplinary certification required under the Ayushman Bharat scheme will also be done on priority. This will reduce the need for patients to wander to different departments and help in providing them with prompt and appropriate treatment.
- The Alumni Association dedicated a modern futsal arena to the college
Gandhi Medical College Alumni Association President Dr. Guru Dutt Tiwari said that on the occasion of the Foundation Day, a modern futsal sports arena constructed in an area of about 9,000 square feet has been dedicated to Gandhi Medical College by the Alumni Association. Its estimated cost is around 35 lakh rupees. He said that this sports complex will be useful in promoting fitness, teamwork, discipline and stress-free lifestyle among the students. The Alumni Association has also prepared a Permanent Corpus Fund (FD) of about Rs.1 crore to strengthen the institution financially, so that the development work of the college and students can be continued in the future.
