Located in Mahasamund district, approximately 100 kilometers from Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is an attractive tourist destination for nature and wildlife lovers. Popular belief holds that Sita took shelter here during her exile, and that Luv and Kush were born in this area. Consequently, this site is a center of religious devotion. The area is surrounded by dense forests, hills, and a serene atmosphere. Flowing streams and natural waterfalls further enhance its beauty. It is an attractive spot for nature lovers and picnickers. Ruins of ancient temples and structures have been discovered in Turturiya, reflecting the region’s historical background. The site is also considered significant from an archaeological perspective. Natural hot springs are also found here, the water of which is believed by locals to be beneficial for health. There is also a belief that the name is derived from the sound “Tur-Tur”.

Sirpur, located approximately 45 kilometers from the sanctuary, is a site of immense historical and archaeological importance. Ancient temples, Buddhist monasteries, and archaeological remains are major attractions, particularly attracting tourists interested in history and culture. The best time to visit Barnawapara is from October to June. The lush greenery is at its peak during the rainy season, although safari services may sometimes be limited. It’s important to wear light-colored clothing, carry binoculars and a camera, and maintain a safe distance from wildlife. Barnawapara Sanctuary, Sirpur, and Turturiya together form a tourist circuit that blends nature, adventure, history, and comfortable accommodation.
