Khadi Fashion Show “Charkha” at MATS University – A Celebration of Indian Culture and Swadeshi Fashion

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, MATS School of Fashion Designing and Technology, Raipur organized a grand Khadi Fashion Show “Charkha” to honor India’s rich textile heritage and to encourage young designers to value and promote handwoven fabrics.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri Rakesh Pandey, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Khadi Gramodyog Board, Raipur, along with Guest of Honour Dr. Sunil Vyas and Special Guest Dr. Krishna Vyas, by lighting the ceremonial lamp before Goddess Saraswati.

The ceremony was graced by Chancellor Shri Gajraj Pagaria, Director General Shri Priyesh Pagaria, Vice Chancellor Dr. K. P. Yadav, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Deepika Dhand, Registrar Mr. Gokulananda Panda, Head of Department Mrs. Parvinder Kaur, and heads of all departments.

The fashion show presented six creative rounds – Indian Style, Western Style, Indo-Western Style, Khadi for Office Wear, Embroidered Dresses,and Traditional Style Sylvette.
Each round beautifully showcased handloom-made Khadi fabrics designed by students in modern styles, creating a stunning blend of color, texture, and elegance on the runway.

Chief Guest Shri Rakesh Pandey praised the students’ creativity and said that such events motivate youth towards self-reliance and sustainable fashion.
Chancellor Shri Gajraj Pagaria extended his best wishes to the students for a bright future and encouraged them to continue progressing with dedication and creativity.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Registrar Mr. Gokulananda Panda. Faculty members, students, and distinguished guests from various departments attended the event.
The “Charkha” Fashion Show stood as a vibrant reflection of Indian culture, tradition, and contemporary fashion.
