Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Shri Hemant Soren, participated in the high-level roundtable on “Delivering Sustainability at Scale: Pathways for Global Transformation” organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting at Davos.
Addressing senior policymakers, global industry leaders and institutional investors, Shri Hemant Soren stated that Jharkhand does not intend to remain merely an exporter of mines and minerals. He emphasized the State’s resolve to move towards value addition, sustainable industrialisation and inclusive growth that directly benefits the people of Jharkhand.
“The objective is not only to utilise our natural resources, but to do so responsibly and in a manner that creates employment and long-term prosperity for our people,” the Chief Minister said. He stressed that sustainability must translate into livelihoods, skill development and social well-being, especially for local and tribal communities.
The Chief Minister highlighted the State Government’s focus on creating employment opportunities through downstream mineral-based industries, renewable energy, green technologies and strengthened human capital. He underlined the need for policy frameworks that ensure economic growth while safeguarding environmental and social interests.
Shri Soren also drew attention to Jharkhand’s immense tourism potential, noting that the State is keen to harness opportunities in eco-tourism, nature-based tourism and cultural tourism. He said tourism can emerge as a strong pillar of sustainable development, generating local employment while preserving Jharkhand’s rich ecological and cultural heritage.
Reiterating Jharkhand’s long-term development vision, the Chief Minister invited global investors and partners to collaborate with the State in areas such as responsible mining, sustainable manufacturing, renewable energy and tourism infrastructure.
Jharkhand’s participation in the CII-organised global sustainability dialogue reflects the State’s commitment to aligning economic growth with environmental responsibility and inclusive development.
