Brihaspati Dhurve explains that with self-effort, proper guidance, and the support of government schemes, even a woman from humble circumstances can rise to the heights of success and self-reliance. Mrs. Brihaspati Dhurve of Sadhwani Gram Panchayat, Gaurela Block, Pendra-Gaurela-Marwahi District, who once supported her family by working as a laborer in other people’s fields, is today known throughout the region as “Lakhpati Didi.”
Through hard work, self-confidence, and the government’s public welfare programs, Brihaspati Dhurve transformed her life and set a new example of self-reliance. Joining the Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) under the good governance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Brihaspati Dhurve began realizing her dreams through a women’s self-help group. After joining the group, she received training and financial support, which enabled her to begin oyster mushroom production. Initially, the work was small-scale, but with hard work and dedication, her production gradually increased. Along with mushroom production, she also began vegetable farming, which brings her annual income to approximately 1.5 to 2 lakh rupees. Today, as a result of her hard work, she has become financially empowered and confidently meets her family’s needs.
Brihaspati Dhurve says she has benefited from numerous government schemes. She receives financial assistance under the Mahatari Vandan Yojana, a cooking gas connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and 35 kg of free rice from the Public Distribution System (PDS). These schemes have provided her family with economic and social security. Today, Brihaspati Dhurve has not only become self-reliant but has also become a source of inspiration for other women. Sharing her experiences, she trains women in mushroom production and encourages them to become self-employed. She has also built a shop to sell her products, taking a loan through the group, and plans to further increase her income by selling mushrooms and other products in the future.
