- Students from Railway schools and the Scouts & Guides enthusiastically participated in ‘Zero Waste’ activities.
In accordance with Railway Board directives, the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS)-2026 campaign is being conducted across the South East Central Railway (Bilaspur Division) from 17 September to 2 October 2026, centered on the theme “Participation in Cleanliness: Clean India, Developed India.” The campaign aims to raise public awareness about cleanliness and ensure maximum public participation.
As part of this initiative, ‘Zero Waste’ sports activities were organized on the ninth and tenth days of the campaign (25 and 26 September 2026) at the sports complex and grounds of the NEI Institute. These events aimed to sensitize students from Railway schools and the Scouts & Guides about cleanliness and to foster a sense of responsibility regarding a clean and healthy environment.
On this occasion, the message of “Cleanliness alongside Sports” was conveyed to the children through various sporting activities. Students enthusiastically participated in events such as running races and badminton. During the activities, they were encouraged to keep the sports grounds and surrounding premises clean, to avoid littering, and to make proper use of available dustbins.
During the program, children were introduced to the concept of ‘Zero Waste’ and informed that every individual plays a crucial role in preventing the generation of unnecessary waste in public spaces, including sports complexes. Students were also educated on proper waste disposal, the segregation of wet and dry waste, and the importance of avoiding single-use plastics. At Bilaspur station, Scout and Guide members used street plays to raise awareness among passengers about cleanliness and urged them to keep railway premises clean.
Additionally, a special cleanliness drive was carried out for water bodies and ponds located near various railway stations in the Bilaspur Division. During the campaign, garbage, plastic, and other waste materials accumulated around these water sources were removed, ensuring the surrounding areas were clean and well-maintained.
