Comprehensive Campaign on Food Safety, Hygiene, and Cleanliness at South East Central Railway.

To provide safe, hygienic, high-quality, and healthy catering facilities to passengers, South East Central Railway conducted a comprehensive campaign on food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness across its three railway divisions—Bilaspur, Raipur, and Nagpur—from 21 August to 04 September 2026.

During the campaign, intensive inspections were carried out on 311 station catering units, 77 mobile (on-train) catering units, and 14 base kitchens under South East Central Railway. Conducted under the supervision of headquarters and divisional officials, the campaign’s primary objective was to ensure the provision of clean and safe catering to passengers while strictly enforcing adherence to prescribed standards for catering services.

Special emphasis was placed on compliance with the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the catering standards prescribed by Indian Railways. Officials inspected various aspects, including the quality and freshness of food items; the hygiene of kitchens and food preparation areas; the safe storage and handling of food ingredients; the cleanliness of serving counters; the personal hygiene of catering staff; the availability of clean drinking water; and scientific waste disposal methods.

During the campaign, vendors and staff associated with catering services were sensitized and made aware of the importance of hygiene and food safety. They were instructed to maintain personal hygiene while preparing and serving food, use protective gear such as gloves and caps, store food items properly, and ensure timely and appropriate waste disposal. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on ensuring continuous adherence to prescribed hygiene standards, prioritizing passenger health and convenience above all else.

South East Central Railway continues to maintain a process of regular inspections, continuous monitoring, and quality checks to ensure food safety, hygiene, and quality, alongside efforts to enhance passenger amenities. The Railways strives to ensure that passengers have access to not only convenient but also safe, hygienic, and high-quality catering services during their journey.
