Dairy Development in Surguja and Bastar Divisions to Gain New Momentum

  • Meeting Held Under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary

A meeting of the State-Level Steering Committee of the State Cooperative Dairy Federation Limited (CGCDF) was held today at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan, presided over by the Chief Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Government, Shri Vikas Sheel. The primary objective of the meeting was the holistic development of the dairy sector in the state, increasing the income of milk producers, enhancing the participation of women milk producers, and strengthening milk collection and marketing infrastructure.

  • Special Focus on Bastar and Surguja Divisions

A large number of rural and Scheduled Tribe families in the seven districts of the Bastar division are engaged in animal husbandry. Approximately 88% of the cows in the region belong to local breeds. Emphasis is being placed on animal nutrition, animal health, breed improvement, and scientific management to boost milk productivity.

With the support of the NDDB, chilling centers were launched in June 2025 in Jashpur (2,000-liter capacity) and Balrampur (5,000-liter capacity) within the Surguja division. Currently, around 3,500 liters of milk are collected daily through 45 milk collection centers, involving more than 1,500 women producers.

  • Direct Payment and Transparent System

Under the project, payments for milk producers’ bills are being made directly into their bank accounts, ensuring a regular income for women and strengthening the rural economy.

The meeting reviewed the action taken reports from previous meetings, human resource challenges, physical and financial progress, and the comprehensive dairy development scheme. Attendees included Principal Secretary of the Scheduled Tribe Development Department Shri Sonmani Borah, Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Shri Siddharth Komal Pardeshi, Secretary of the Finance and Public Relations Department Dr. Rohit Yadav, Commissioner (Cooperation) Shri Ramesh Kumar Sharma, along with officials from the State Cooperative Dairy Federation, other senior officials from the Cooperation Department, and other federation members.
