The Department of Psychology, MATS University, Raipur, inaugurated two-day National Conference on the theme “Mental Health Care” with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Puja.
The conference witnessed participation from academicians, researchers, mental health professionals, and students from across the country, who deliberated on contemporary issues and emerging dimensions of mental health care. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Patra, Vice Chancellor of DDUMHS & AYUSH University, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Amba Sethi, Counselling Psychologist, graced the event as the Keynote Speaker.
In his address, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Patra highlighted the growing need for mental health awareness. Referring to his experiences and contributions in the field of Sickle Cell Anemia, he emphasized that physical and mental health are deeply interconnected. He stated that patience serves as a crucial foundation for maintaining both physical and mental well-being, enabling individuals to effectively cope with life’s challenges and stressful situations. He further stressed the need to prioritize mental health across healthcare services, educational institutions, and various levels of society.

In her keynote address, Dr. Amba Sethi discussed the challenges associated with mental health, the importance of timely identification and intervention, and the role of counselling and psychotherapy in promoting well-being. She particularly emphasized the need to increase awareness and sensitivity to eliminate the social stigma associated with mental illness.
The Convener of National Conference was Dr. Shaista Ansari, Professor and Head, Department of Psychology.
During the programme, Prof. Dr. K. P. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, and Shri Gokulananda Panda, Registrar, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Psychology in providing a meaningful academic platform for deliberations on the important subject of mental health. Additionally, Shri Gajraj Pagaria, Chancellor, and Shri Priyesh Pagaria, Director General, conveyed their blessings and good wishes, expressing confidence in the success of the conference and the valuable contributions of all participants.
