Dharti Aba Tribal Village Development Campaign

  • Door-to-door screening will be conducted in coordination with AIIMS and Health Department to prevent sickle cell in tribal dominated areas.

Under the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, concrete measures will be taken to screen and treat sickle cell disease in the Scheduled Areas in coordination with AIIMS Raipur and the Health Department. The annual action plan for screening and treatment of sickle cell was discussed. For this, it was also agreed to conduct door-to-door screening with the help of Mitanins. The meeting of the state-level committee constituted for the establishment of the Center of Competence, chaired by Mr. Sonmani Bora, Principal Secretary of the Tribal, Scheduled Caste and Backward Class and Minority Development Department, was held at the Ministry Mahanadi Bhawan. In the meeting, it was decided that the Health Department would prepare an annual action plan for the prevention, treatment, counseling and public awareness of sickle cell disease.

It is noteworthy that under the Dharti Aba Tribal Village Utkarsh Abhiyan, a state level committee has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, New Delhi regarding the prevention of sickle cell disease in the state.

In a meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Mr. Bora, discussions were held regarding the implementing agency for the establishment, operation, and management of the CoC. Similarly, it was agreed that the Health Department would monitor the establishment work undertaken by the designated agency and that the funds for the establishment of the CoC would be transferred to the Commissioner-cum-Director of Health Services.

At the committee meeting, it was decided that the Health Department would select and nominate a field-level subject matter expert to contribute to the implementation of the mission plan and submit a proposal to the department. Similarly, discussions were held to ensure the establishment of the program in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.

Secretary Health Services Mr. Amit Kataria, Commissioner Tribal Development Dr. Saransh Mittal, Professor E. Mahapatra, Head of Department SCU AIIMS Raipur, Nodal Officer of Sickle Cell Division Dr. Abhyudaya Tiwari, Dr. Maneka Chandrakar Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Asmita Behera State Advisor Blood Bank Raipur and other concerned officers were present in the meeting of the State Level Committee.
