- Higher Education Minister Tank Ram Verma held a review meeting.
With the aim of strengthening the higher education system in the state and accelerating the administrative processes, Higher Education Minister Shri Tank Ram Verma held a review meeting of departmental officers in the ministry today. In the meeting, the point-wise implementation of the action taken so far on the decisions taken on July 1, 2026 was reviewed. Minister Shri Verma expressed strong displeasure over the delay in time-bound works and gave strict instructions to immediately remove administrative laxity and bring transparency in the entire process. Secretary Shri Avinash Champawat, Commissioner Smt. Rita Yadav and departmental officers were present in this meeting.
- Deadline fixed for professor recruitment and promotion
During the meeting, the ongoing admission process for the session 2026-27 in the government colleges of the state was reviewed. Minister Shri Verma asked to immediately remove the obstacles in the recruitment process for 700 posts of Assistant Professor and to expedite the process of direct recruitment for 595 vacant posts of Professors. Taking a strict stand on the pendency of promotion to the post of Graduate Principal, he directed to complete all the proceedings by 15 September 2026. Along with this, the investigation of the professors who got promotion despite being ineligible and the action taken against them was also reviewed.
- Concerns over court cases and prompt resolution of pay scales
The minister expressed serious concern that assistant professors are being forced to approach the court due to delays in senior and senior grade pay scale cases. Requesting details of pending court cases and petitions in the department, he gave clear instructions to officials to resolve all pending cases 100% and issue orders by October 1, 2026. Additionally, a detailed account was sought of the progress of faculty PhD approvals and the action taken on complaints submitted by the minister’s office.
- Emphasis on financial transparency and educational quality
During the review, Minister Shri Verma expressed dissatisfaction with the incomplete budget information requested in the previous meeting. He directed that a complete college-wise list of the budget allocated to each government college for the fiscal year 2026-27 be immediately made available. In order to maintain quality in higher education, it was decided to conduct regular surprise inspections of the teaching work of guest lecturers posted in colleges.
- Session Management and New Policy Initiatives
Keeping in mind the larger interest of the students, the Higher Education Minister suggested implementing a new calendar to streamline the process of seat increase in colleges. Under this, proposals for seat increase will be sought from government and private colleges by December and approvals will be issued by January, so that colleges can be free from errors in orders. Instructions were given to resolve online applications received till December 31 for professional courses like Law and B.Ed. within the time limit.
Additionally, instructions were issued to constitute a special team to be sent to Delhi to discuss the NCTE Delhi’s NAAC grading criteria for the 4-year B.Ed. course and to begin preparations now to adjust the ratio of 60 students per section as per the Bar Council of India (BCI) rules.
