Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the ‘Nash Mukt Yuva-Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ through video conferencing with the aim of linking the country’s youth power to nation building by preventing drug addiction. The campaign will run as a mass movement for the next 100 weeks. In a program organized under the joint auspices of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication Rewa campus and National Service Scheme Cell of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, a large number of ‘My Bharat’ and NSS volunteers took the pledge of drug free society. Addressing the program through virtual media, Prime Minister Shri Modi said that youth energy is the greatest strength of India. To create a developed India, it is necessary to protect the youth from drugs. When the youth of the country takes a decision, it can make the impossible possible. He said that this is not only a government campaign, but a people-to-people movement. Schools, colleges, social and youth organizations will continue this campaign for the next 100 weeks. The Prime Minister called upon ‘My Bharat’, NSS and youth organizations to be pioneers of the campaign and said that instead of isolating the youth caught in the grip of drug addiction, they have to be taken by the hand and brought back into the mainstream. With the collective efforts of families, educational institutions, civil society and socio-spiritual organizations, the vision of a drug-free India will be realized.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla said that addiction destroys not only the individual, but the entire family and society like termites. India’s greatest strength is its youth and if the energy of the youth is harnessed in the right direction, no one can stop India from becoming a leading power in the world. Drug-free youth is the foundation of developed India. He said that this 100-week campaign started on the call of the Prime Minister will be extended to village-to-village and street-to-street of Rewa and entire Vindhya. Rewa sets an example in this campaign, for which every section of the society should take an active part. He called upon the youth to spread the concept of ‘drug-free rewa-developed rewa’ to the masses. MP Janardhan Mishra said that a social evil like drug addiction cannot be eradicated only by relying on law and police. Awareness in family and society is necessary for this. He called upon the youth to become ‘brand ambassadors’ of the campaign and said that by increasing communication between parents and children and reducing mutual distance in the family, the youth can be prevented to a large extent from taking to drugs. Prof. Vice Chancellor of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University in the welcome address. Rajendra Kudria said that the university is not only a center for imparting education, it is also an institution for building character and developing a sense of social responsibility. Prime Minister’s call and the joint initiative of NSS and ‘My Bharat’ will play an important role in giving positive direction to the youth.
As part of this hundred-week nationwide campaign, activities related to de-addiction will be organized every Sunday at educational institutions and social levels. These will mainly include walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural performances, street plays, art competitions and dialogue programs. Additional Director of Higher Education Department Dr. Mahendramani Dwivedi, Registrar Neerja Namdev, Abhimanyu Prasad, Dr. Satyendra Deharia, Adjunct Professor Jairam Shukla, principals of various colleges, professors, public representatives, dignitaries and a large number of NSS and My Bharat Swayamsevak were present. The program was conducted by NSS Swayamsevak Rachit Mishra. In the program, the guests, students and volunteers took an oath to keep themselves away from drug addiction and to make the society drug free and to make others aware of it.
