- Governor emphasizes innovation, entrepreneurship, and the creation of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India) at ITM University’s 11th Convocation
Governor Shri Ramen Deka has urged the youth to transform their innovative ideas into startups, embrace innovation, and venture into the field of entrepreneurship. He stated that education is the most powerful tool for achieving one’s goals and that the ideas of the youth have the potential to steer the nation’s economy in a new direction. The scope for startups is no longer confined to large cities; new enterprises are now emerging in smaller towns and villages as well. Young people should seize these opportunities to carve out their own unique identities.
Governor Shri Ramen Deka attended the 11th Convocation of ITM University, Raipur, today as the chief guest. During the ceremony, 16 students were awarded gold medals, four research scholars received their PhD degrees, and 464 students were conferred with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Addressing the students, the Governor highlighted the immense potential within the realms of startups and entrepreneurship. He encouraged the youth to translate their ideas into practical ventures, thereby contributing to the national economy. He urged them not to limit their aspirations to merely securing a job, but rather to leverage their capabilities, knowledge, and creativity to become job creators. “Transform your ideas into startups, forge your own path, and once you achieve success, do not forget society,” he advised, adding that since society has contributed significantly to every individual’s life, one must always remain mindful of their responsibilities toward it.

The Governor remarked that a convocation ceremony signifies the conclusion of one phase of a student’s life and the commencement of another. While the journey ahead may be fraught with challenges and struggles, these can be overcome through hard work, patience, and self-confidence. Students should pursue careers in fields that align with their interests, as this will lead to both personal satisfaction and success. A degree, it was noted, is not merely a certificate; rather, it represents an opportunity to fulfill one’s obligations toward one’s family, society, and the nation through the knowledge and skills acquired. The purpose of education extends beyond securing a job—it is also about developing the discernment to distinguish between right and wrong and becoming a responsible citizen. Young people should not view a degree as the final destination; instead, they should cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and experimentation.

The Governor remarked that today’s students are navigating an era defined by artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile technology—technologies that are themselves the product of human intellect. He advised the youth to steer clear of digital addiction and substance abuse. He emphasized using mobile devices only when necessary and maintaining meaningful engagement with family, friends, and society.
The Governor highlighted that peace and security are catalysts for development. He pointed to the new developmental opportunities that have emerged in Chhattisgarh following the decline of Naxalite influence, as well as the initiatives focused on livelihoods in the Bastar region. He also underscored the need to develop the state’s natural beauty and tourism destinations.

In his address, the Governor urged the youth to dream big, work hard to turn those dreams into reality, and continue experimenting without becoming discouraged by setbacks. He stated that the contribution of every individual is essential to building an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India). While pursuing their own progress, young people should also fulfill their societal responsibilities and apply their knowledge and skills toward the holistic development of the nation.
The event began with a welcome address by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ramchandra Jahangir. Mr. V.K. Goyal, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission, also delivered an address. The ceremony was attended by former High Court Judge Mr. Gautam Bhaduri, members of the university’s Board of Management and Executive Council, faculty members, parents, and students.
