Every Child’s Childhood: A Collective Responsibility

  • ‘Safe Childhood Campaign’ Reaches 21 Schools; 42 Judges Educate Children on Their Rights and Safety Measures

Special programs were organized across 21 schools in Raipur to raise awareness among children regarding their rights and safety. As part of the ‘Safe Childhood Campaign’ (Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan), 42 judges engaged with students, providing information on child protection laws, personal safety, online vigilance, and the availability of free legal aid.

Launched on October 10, 2026, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, this campaign aims to familiarize children with their rights and the resources available to them for support. Through this initiative, children are being taught whom to contact in situations involving insecurity or exploitation, how to file a complaint, and how to access free legal assistance.

In the first phase of the campaign, awareness activities are being conducted in schools across the Raipur and Gariaband districts from October 26 to October 31. A district-level coordination committee has been formed for this purpose, comprising the District Education Officer, Child Welfare Police Officers, the Department of Women and Child Development, and the Cyber Crime Department. The programs are being carried out in selected schools under the guidance of Mr. Balram Prasad Verma, Principal District Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority.

The programs cover various themes, including ‘My Childhood, My Rights,’ ‘Know the Law, Save Childhood,’ ‘Safe Click, Safe Childhood,’ ‘Speak Up, Share, Stay Safe,’ and ‘No to Child Marriage, No to Child Exploitation.’ Experts—including POCSO support personnel from the Department of Women and Child Development, members of the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee, and child psychology specialists—are engaging directly with the children.

Faculty members and law students from nearby law colleges are also participating in the campaign through activities such as street plays (nukkad natak), quizzes, and art and painting competitions. The objective of these efforts is to create a safe environment for children, while also informing them about their rights and the avenues available for seeking assistance.

Instructions have been issued to ensure that, even after the campaign concludes, schools continue to organize activities focused on children’s intellectual and mental development, as well as on raising awareness regarding child protection.
