- 40 kilolitre water reservoir and 150 domestic tap connections bring great relief to villagers
The work undertaken by the Public Health Engineering Department under the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household in Birauri village, a dependent village of Amgaon Gram Panchayat of Chhuikhadan development block of Khairagarh district, is bringing positive changes in the lives of the villagers. With the effective implementation of the scheme, every family in the village now has access to clean drinking water at home, providing a permanent solution to the age-old drinking water problem.
In the village of Birauri, a 40 kiloliter high-level reservoir has been constructed and an extensive pipeline network has been developed. Through this, 150 families, totaling 638 people, have been provided with household tap connections. With regular water supply, villagers now have easy access to clean and safe drinking water.
Before the scheme’s implementation, women and children had to travel daily to distant sources for drinking water, which was both time-consuming and labor-intensive. Now, with tap water available in every home, women are relieved, children have more time for studies and other activities, and families’ daily routines have become easier and more convenient.
Regular access to clean drinking water has also had a positive impact on the health of the villagers. The risk of waterborne diseases has decreased and public awareness of sanitation has increased. This has led to a significant improvement in the quality of life of the villagers.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, villagers are being continuously raised awareness about water conservation, rainwater harvesting, water source protection, and judicious use of drinking water. With the active participation of the Gram Panchayat and villagers, the operation and maintenance of the scheme has also been strengthened, ensuring its continuity and effectiveness.
The Public Health Engineering Department has appealed to villagers to utilize water judiciously, prevent unnecessary water wastage, and actively participate in the conservation of water resources. The department believes that only through public participation can the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission be successfully accomplished in the long term.
This success in Birauri village is proof that effective implementation of government schemes and public participation can bring about widespread and lasting change in rural life. The Jal Jeevan Mission is not limited to providing drinking water in villages; it has become a powerful tool for improved health, time savings, women’s empowerment, and improved quality of life.
