The Department of Mining Engineering, MSEIT, MATS University, Arang, organised a one-day
workshop on 10 October 2026, focusing on accident prevention, safety management, and
the application of remote sensing technology in the mining industry. The workshop
aimed to enhance awareness among students and faculty members about contemporary
mining practices, occupational safety, accident prevention strategies, and emerging
technological advancements in the mining sector. The workshop featured two (02) expert
lectures delivered by distinguished faculty members from the National Institute of Technology
(NIT), Raipur.
Dr. Ashish Kumar Dash, Associate Professor, Department of Mining Engineering, NIT
Raipur, delivered an expert lecture on “Accident Prevention and Safety Management in Indian
Mining: Challenges, Practices and the Way Forward.” He discussed the major challenges
associated with mine safety in India, the importance of identifying and assessing workplace
hazards, and the implementation of effective accident prevention measures. The lecture
highlighted the significance of safety management systems, statutory compliance, risk
assessment, technological interventions, and the development of a strong safety culture to
minimise mining accidents and protect the lives of mine workers.
Dr. Mohd. Maneeb Masood, Faculty, Department of Mining Engineering, NIT Raipur,
delivered an expert lecture on “Remote Sensing Technology in Mines.” His lecture focused on
the application of remote sensing technologies in mining operations, including mine planning,
monitoring of mining activities, land-use assessment, environmental monitoring, and the
management of mining-related impacts. He emphasised the role of modern remote sensing
tools in improving operational efficiency, supporting informed decision-making, and promoting
sustainable mining practices.
The workshop provided an important platform for students and faculty members to interact
with experts, gain practical insights into current industry challenges, and understand the
growing importance of technological innovation and safety-oriented approaches in mining
operations. The programme also reinforced the need to bridge the gap between academic
knowledge and industrial practices through expert interaction and knowledge sharing.
The programme was conducted under the guidance and support of the university leadership,
including Mr. Priyesh Pagariya, Director General; Dr. K. P. Yadav, Vice-Chancellor; Mr.
Gokulanand Panda, Registrar; and Mr. Brijesh Patel, Director. Their encouragement and
support contributed to the successful organisation of the workshop.
The Department of Mining Engineering expressed its sincere appreciation to the invited
experts for sharing their valuable knowledge and professional experiences. The programme
was coordinated with the active involvement of Dr. Ghanshyam Shakar, Head of the
Department; Dr. Sandeep Kumar Sahoo; Mr. Choman Adil; and Mr. Lokmanya Patel, who
contributed to the organisation and successful conduct of the event.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the university
leadership, the invited experts, the organising team, faculty members, and students for their
valuable contributions and participation. The organisers reaffirmed the department’s
commitment to promoting quality technical education, industry-oriented learning, mine safety
awareness, and the adoption of advanced technologies in the mining sector.
Through such academic initiatives, the Department of Mining Engineering, MSEIT, MATS
University, Arang, continues to encourage knowledge exchange, professional development,
and awareness of emerging trends and challenges in the mining industry. At last The chancellor of MATS University Shri Gajraj Pagariya congratulated the department for conducting such type of event.
