Prime Minister Housing Scheme makes Somari’s dream of a permanent house come true

  • A family of five found new happiness after a safe home was built with the help of Rs 1.20 lakh.
  • Along with housing, benefits of Ujjwala Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission were also received.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) is making the dream of a permanent home come true for needy families. The scheme has also brought positive change to the life of 52-year-old Mrs. Somari of Singanpur Gram Panchayat, under Tokapal Janpad Panchayat, Bastar district. Her family of five, once facing the hardships of rain, sun, and cold in a mud house, now lives a safe and dignified life in their permanent homes.

It was difficult for Mrs. Somari, wife of Mr. Rithu Ram, to build a permanent house due to limited financial resources. During the rainy season, water would leak from the roof of the kutcha house and there was a constant worry about repairs every year. In the financial year 2024-25, a house of 27 square meters area was approved in her name under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). For the construction of the house, she was provided assistance of Rs. 1 lakh 20 thousand in three installments. In this, she received Rs. 40 thousand as the first installment, Rs. 55 thousand in the second installment and Rs. 25 thousand in the third installment. With this assistance, her permanent house was completed.

In addition to housing, Somari’s family has also benefited from other public welfare schemes. They received an LPG gas connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, tap water from the Jal Jeevan Mission, and a toilet under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Additionally, during the construction of the house, they were paid 90 days’ wages under MNREGA, providing additional financial support to the family.

The construction of a permanent house has brought relief to Somari’s family from the vagaries of weather. They no longer have to worry about leaking roofs during rainstorms or frequent repairs. The savings from repairs are helping the family fund their children’s education and other household needs. The availability of amenities like drinking water, a toilet, and cooking gas has also made daily life more comfortable.

Mrs. Somari explains that building a permanent home was a long-held dream for her family, which has been fulfilled through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). Now, her family lives in secure housing and is more confident about their future. She expressed her happiness at receiving a permanent home and other basic amenities and expressed her gratitude to the government.
