- High-level meeting held in Durg

The UCC Committee constituted by the state government has initiated the process of public consultation to make the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) practical, inclusive, and beneficial for the public in Chhattisgarh. As part of this process, a high-level meeting was organized by the UCC Drafting Committee in Durg on Tuesday, September 8.
In the presence of retired IAS officer Shri M.K. Raut, senior advocate Shri Mohan Pawar, and retired Principal Smt. (Dr.) Jyoti Rani Singh, in-depth deliberations took place on sensitive and significant subjects such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance, and live-in relationships.
- Discussion on traditional beliefs and legal reforms
During the meeting, office-bearers from various social, political, and religious associations openly expressed their views for and against the UCC. Discussions covered several key aspects, ranging from traditional social beliefs to modern legal reforms. Committee members assured that the draft of the Code would be prepared after studying all the suggestions received.
- Active participation from diverse organizations
Representatives from various communities and organizations in the region participated in this important meeting. Key participants included office-bearers from the Sahu Samaj, Manwa Kurmi Samaj, Kanwar Samaj, Chandranahu Kurmi Samaj, Gondwana Seva Samiti, Andhra Samaj, Halba Samaj, Tamrakar Samaj, Yadav Samaj, Kandra Tribal Samaj, and the Youth Wing of the Muslim Samaj, as well as representatives from Sarva Adivasi Samaj, Gondwana Gond Mahasabha, BSP ST Employees’ Association, Bharatiya Bauddh Mahasabha, and Ram Mandir Trust Bemetara. Similarly, members from civic and professional forums—such as the Senior Citizen Welfare Forum, Pragya Senior Citizen Association, Pensioners’ Association, Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce, and Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha—were among those who offered suggestions.
- Suggestions Invited via Digital Channels
During the meeting, Advocate Pranjal Sharma provided detailed information regarding the nature and provisions of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) through a PowerPoint presentation. The committee has also shared an official website (http://ucc.cgstate.gov.in) and an email address (ucc-chhattisgarh@cg.gov.in) to invite suggestions from the general public and various organizations.
The meeting was attended by UCC Committee Member Secretary and Raipur Divisional Commissioner Shyam Dhawde, Durg Divisional Commissioner S.N. Rathore, Durg Collector Abhijit Singh, ADM Virendra Singh, and SDM Prafull Gupta, along with administrative officials from the Durg, Balod, and Bemetara districts.
