SDRF conducts mock rescue drill at Shyam Ghunghuta Dam

A state-level flood disaster mock drill was conducted today at Shyam Ghunghuta Dam in Surguja district to improve efficiency in dealing with natural disasters and conducting relief and rescue operations. Various departments, including the district administration, Disaster Management Department, NDRF/SDRF, police, health department, fire brigade, and panchayat representatives, actively participated in the exercise.
During the drill, it was simulated that continuous heavy rainfall had triggered a flash flood. In this situation, people were evacuated from affected villages using boats and rescue boats. A scuba team demonstrated the search and rescue of a drowning victim. The process of lifting people trapped under debris using air lifting jacks and transporting the injured to safety via stretcher was also demonstrated.
Rescue teams informed villagers that household items like bamboo sticks, water cans, plastic bottles, and pots can be used as lifesaving tools in a flood situation. Demonstrations were also provided on the spot about first aid, CPR, ambulances, and the deployment of a medical team.

Collector Mr. Vilas Bhoskar said that such mock drills help in providing a quick, coordinated, and effective response to a real disaster situation. Additional Collector and Nodal Officer Mr. Sunil Nayak stated that villagers were taught simple techniques for self-protection. District Commandant Mr. S.K. Kadhutia described various rescue exercises conducted by the soldiers.
On this occasion, Additional Collector Shri Ram Singh Thakur, Shri Amrit Lal Dhruv, SDM, Tehsildar, Reserve Inspector Smt. Tripti Singh Rajput, District Commander Shri Sanjay Gupta, SDRF in-charge Shri Ramlal, NCC Officer Shri Naveen Tripathi, CMHO Dr. P.S. Marko along with officers, employees and villagers were present in large numbers.
