The Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme is being implemented in Chhattisgarh to provide relief to farmers from crop losses caused by natural disasters. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has directed field officials of the agriculture department to register all farmers for this insurance scheme so that they can receive compensation in case their crops are affected by natural calamities. The agriculture department of the Chhattisgarh government has issued a notification for the Kharif season of 2024 regarding the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, and it is mandatory for farmers to register to avail the benefits. The deadline for registration has been set as July 31, 2024. Farmers can insure main crops like paddy, irrigated and non-irrigated, as well as other crops like maize, lentils, and kutki under this scheme.
It is noteworthy that adverse weather conditions, droughts, floods, waterlogging, and other natural calamities can severely impact the agricultural sector, leading to significant losses for farmers. The Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme aims to mitigate these risks by providing financial support to farmers in case of crop damage due to such unforeseen events. By ensuring that farmers are registered under this scheme, the Chhattisgarh government is taking proactive steps to safeguard the interests of farmers and provide them with a safety net during challenging times. This initiative not only helps in stabilizing the income of farmers but also contributes to the overall resilience of the agricultural sector in the state.
