Under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ (Service Pledge Campaign), a special awareness program regarding children’s rights, safety, and protection was organized at Government Sukhram Nage College, Nagri. The event was held under the joint auspices of the Department of Women and Child Development, the District Child Protection Unit, and the Child Helpline, following directives from the district administration.
During the program, the project coordinator provided students with simple and practical information about child rights and relevant laws. They encouraged the youth to remain vigilant regarding serious issues such as cybercrime, child abuse, gender-based violence, child labor, child marriage, and human trafficking. Emphasizing digital safety, they advised students to maintain a distance from strangers on social media and to avoid sharing personal information or documents with anyone.
Additionally, students were apprised of the key provisions of major laws enacted for the protection of child rights, such as the POCSO Act 2012, the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006. Highlighting the role of the 24-hour toll-free emergency Child Helpline (1098) and the emergency service (112), students were urged not to remain silent if they witnessed any form of exploitation or violence, but rather to immediately report it to the concerned authorities.
Important information regarding the adverse effects of substance abuse and government-run child care institutions was also shared on this occasion. The program was attended by the Child Helpline Supervisor, District Women Protection Officer, Mission Shakti Coordinator, the college principal, faculty members, and a large number of students.
