The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is not only providing financial support to farmers but also opening new livelihood opportunities. Mr. Parshuram Gupta, a 75-year-old farmer from Mahapalli village in Raigarh district, saved the funds received under the scheme and began cow rearing. Today, he successfully runs his business, setting an example of self-reliance.
In 2020, Mr. Gupta saved two thousand rupees each from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi installments and raised approximately 10 thousand rupees. With this amount, he purchased his first cow and began cow rearing. With hard work and experience, he gradually increased his livestock. Today, he owns 10 cows and produces approximately 100 liters of milk daily, selling it to a local dairy at 40 rupees per liter. This brings his monthly turnover to approximately 1.20 lakh rupees.
Mr. Parshuram Gupta explains that he has been passionate about animal husbandry since childhood. The funds he received from the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) provided him with the initial capital to transform this interest into a livelihood. He says that proper and planned use of small financial assistance from government schemes can bring about significant changes in farmers’ lives. Even at the age of 75, Mr. Gupta enthusiastically engages in cow rearing. His small endeavor, which began with savings from the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) fund, has now blossomed into a successful business. His experience demonstrates that with hard work, experience, and the optimal use of available resources, age is no barrier to self-reliance.
