A unique confluence of Chhattisgarh’s rich folk culture and modern agricultural technology was witnessed this time on Hareli Tihar in Balod district. On the auspicious occasion of Sawan Amavasya, while farmers, as per their tradition, prayed for a good harvest and prosperity by worshipping agricultural tools like plough, ploughshare, hoe and spade, the Drone Didis of the district worshipped the modern agricultural equipment drone with incense and lamps and offered traditional jaggery-cheela and coconut to it. This unique event presented a new picture of the changing Chhattisgarh by linking the centuries-old tradition of Hareli with modern agricultural technology.

Mrs. Bhuneshwari Sahu, Mrs. Chitrarekha Sahu and Ms. Ruchi Sahu of Balod district, trained under the government’s Drone Didi scheme, gave a new identity to technological change in agriculture by worshipping drones on the occasion of Hareli. Drone Didi Bhuneshwari Sahu said that Chhattisgarh’s culture teaches the tradition of respecting agricultural tools. In today’s era, drones have also become the modern companion of farmers, which can spray nano fertilizers and agricultural medicines on crops in less time.

Drone Didi Chitrarekha Sahu said that drone technology has made agricultural work easier and more effective. On the occasion of Hareli, she pledged to connect as many farmers of the district as possible with modern agricultural technology.
