- A target has been set for construction of 16,873 trenches in Raigarh district, with an amount of Rs 52.55 lakh approved.
To improve rainwater management, prevent soil erosion, and promote conservation of natural resources in rural areas, staggered contour trench and contour trench construction projects have been approved in Raigarh district. These projects, being carried out in sloping areas, will help control the rapid flow of rainwater and infiltrate it into the soil, thereby maintaining field moisture and soil productivity.
A total of 16,873 trenches have been targeted for construction in the district, covering approximately 38.27 acres. An amount of ₹52.55 lakh has been approved for these projects. Under this scheme, a total of 28 projects have been approved in various gram panchayats of the Raigarh, Kharsia, and Tamnar development blocks. These include six projects in the Raigarh development block, 16 in Kharsia, and six in the Tamnar development block.
- “Conserving Rainwater, Controlling Soil Erosion”
Staggered contour trenches and contour trenches are constructed to control rainwater runoff, especially in sloping areas. These structures allow water to be captured and slowly infiltrated into the ground. This helps reduce soil erosion, retain soil moisture, and preserve the land’s productive capacity.
