On the auspicious occasion of Ganeshotsav, inmates at Raipur Central Jail have presented a unique blend of faith, creativity, and environmental conservation. For the upcoming festival, the inmates have crafted 500 eco-friendly Ganesha idols—ranging from 1 to 2 feet in height—using natural clay. A distinctive feature of these idols is the use of natural clay and colors, along with the inclusion of seeds from various plants, including Tulsi.
Following the immersion ceremony, the seeds embedded within the idols will sprout and grow into plants. Thus, these idols will serve as a medium to convey the message of environmental conservation and a greener future to the public, alongside upholding religious faith.
- Inmates’ Creativity Finds a Positive Direction
Various skill development and production activities are being conducted by inmates at Raipur Central Jail. As part of this initiative, approximately 10 inmates crafted these attractive idols of Lord Ganesha with great dedication, hard work, and creativity. This initiative is a meaningful effort to encourage skill development, creative expression, and positive thinking among the inmates, while also engaging them in activities that benefit society and the environment. The inclusion of seeds within the clay idols makes this endeavor particularly special.

Raipur Jail Superintendent Mr. Yogesh Singh Kshatri stated that Raipur Central Jail continuously conducts various skill development and production activities to foster the rehabilitation and self-reliance of inmates. In this context, the seed-embedded, eco-friendly Ganesha idols created by the inmates embody the message that faith and nature conservation can indeed go hand in hand. He stated that such creative activities provide inmates with an opportunity to channel their talents and skills in a positive direction. At the same time, such efforts play a significant role in raising awareness about environmental conservation.
