A cultural evening was organized today at the Chhattisgarh Mandapam in Lok Bhavan to mark the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika—a renowned musician, singer, lyricist, and filmmaker. Held in the distinguished presence of Governor Shri Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the event commemorated Dr. Hazarika’s unparalleled contributions to the fields of art, music, and culture, while paying a musical tribute to his timeless compositions and life journey.
Governor Shri Ramen Deka remarked that Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s music was not merely a source of entertainment but a profound expression of society, culture, nature, human empathy, and national unity. Through his songs and music, he worked to unite India’s diverse cultural traditions. His works continue to convey messages of social harmony, brotherhood, and human values to people today.
During the cultural evening, artists from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, presented a dance-drama based on the life and works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, effectively bringing his compositions and life story to life through dance. Artists from the Mahakalibari and Vishwanath Mandir Samiti, Pandri, Raipur, delivered soulful musical performances featuring famous songs sung by Dr. Hazarika.
