Another significant chapter was added today in the journey to realize the dream of permanent housing for poor and needy families in Chhattisgarh. A house-warming ceremony for 2 lakh newly constructed houses was held at the state-level event for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin in Sakti. During the program, keys to their new homes were symbolically handed over to the beneficiaries in the presence of Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
On this occasion, Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan presented a major gift to Chhattisgarh in the form of 3.65 lakh additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. He also announced the opening of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agricultural Science Centre) in the newly formed Sakti district and the extension of the survey deadline for the scheme in the Bastar division until October 31, 2026. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously working to bring about positive changes in the lives of the poor, farmers, women, and rural families. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin is a significant scheme that translates this resolve into reality on the ground.
He noted that the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin is progressing rapidly in Chhattisgarh, with more than 1,600 houses being completed every day. He commended the effective implementation of Central and State government schemes and the development works being carried out in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
Union Minister Shri Chouhan stated that the government delivers on its promises. Development activities in Chhattisgarh have gained new momentum through the coordinated efforts of the Central and State governments. Facilities related to permanent housing, roads, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and livelihoods are being continuously expanded in rural areas.
He added that through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, poor families are not only receiving permanent shelter but are also experiencing comprehensive changes in their lives through schemes such as Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, free rations, toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission, and the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Working together to strengthen agriculture and the rural economy
Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that Chhattisgarh is a state with immense agricultural potential. The state is rapidly carving out a new identity for itself—not just as the ‘Rice Bowl’ of the country, but also in the field of vegetable production. The Central and State governments are working together to increase farmers’ income, promote modern agricultural technology, and strengthen the rural economy.
He mentioned that the establishment of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agricultural Science Centre) in Sakti would provide local farmers with access to modern agricultural techniques, advanced farming methods, crop diversification, and scientific guidance related to agriculture. Welcoming and extending greetings to Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on behalf of the 30 million people of Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that Shri Chouhan holds a special affection for the state, and every visit of his has brought new gifts of development to the region. He congratulated and extended best wishes to the 200,000 beneficiary families who are moving into their new permanent homes today.
Chief Minister Shri Sai remarked that providing permanent housing to poor families is among his government’s highest priorities. The state government made its priority clear by approving 18 lakh (1.8 million) Pradhan Mantri Awas units in its very first cabinet meeting. Over the past two and a half years, more than 11.50 lakh (1.15 million) houses have been completed in the state.
He noted that housing targets under the Awas Survey-2011 and Awas Plus Survey have already been approved. A request has now been made to the Union Minister for Rural Development to approve housing for the remaining eligible families included in the ‘Awas Plus-Plus’ survey. The government is striving to ensure that no eligible poor family in the state remains deprived of a permanent home.
- 13.85 lakh sisters became ‘Lakhpati Didis’
Chief MinisterShri Sai stated that our mothers and sisters play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy. New livelihood opportunities are being provided to women through the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the ‘Bihan’ scheme. So far, 13.85 lakh women in the state have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ (women earning an annual income of over one lakh rupees). This stands as a testament to the hard work and self-confidence of women, as well as the significant transformation taking place towards their economic self-reliance.
The Chief Minister noted that approximately 70 lakh mothers and sisters in the state are benefiting from the ‘Mahtari Vandan Yojana,’ with over ₹20,000 crore already transferred to their accounts. The state government is fully committed to ensuring the dignity, safety, and economic empowerment of women.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to make the most of the Chief Minister’s Helpline (1076) and the ‘Seva Setu’ portal. He mentioned that outstanding electricity bills amounting to over ₹750 crore have been waived under the ‘Bijli Bill Samadhan Yojana’ (Electricity Bill Resolution Scheme).
- Launch of Several Innovative Rural Development Campaigns
During the event, a ‘Grih Pravesh’ (house-warming) ceremony was held for 2 lakh houses constructed under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin,’ alongside the launch of various rural development campaigns and innovative initiatives. Symbolic keys for the new homes were handed over to the beneficiaries of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.’
An AI-based geo-tag verification system was launched under the ‘Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.’ Under the ‘Viksit Bharat-G Ram Ji’ initiative, the ‘Dhar Apaar’ and ‘Sughghar Badi’ campaigns were started. Additionally, 270 new Integrated Farming Clusters were unveiled under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, and a ‘Challenge Fund Event’ was launched as part of the incubation program titled ‘Ath Udyamita Ki Ore’ (Towards Entrepreneurship).
At the event, ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and ‘Dealer Didis’ who have excelled in the field of livelihoods, as well as representatives of Panchayats that have performed remarkably in rural development, were felicitated. Union Minister of State Shri Tokhan Sahu stated that Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of ‘Antyodaya’ (upliftment of the last person) serves as a guiding principle for the government. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, and in alignment with this spirit, schemes are being implemented for the welfare of the poor, farmers, women, and the most marginalized sections of society.
He noted that the effective implementation of public welfare schemes by both the central and state governments has imparted new momentum to development in the state; alongside basic amenities, opportunities for employment and livelihoods are also expanding in villages.
- No eligible family should be deprived of a permanent house: Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma stated that since the government assumed office in the state, over 11.50 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been completed. The state government is firmly resolved to ensure that no eligible family remains without a permanent house. Attention is being paid to providing housing not only for poor families but also for families affected by Naxal violence and those who have surrendered and returned to the mainstream of society.
He emphasized that rural development is not limited merely to housing construction; rapid progress is also being made to strengthen education, sanitation, and other basic amenities in villages. A target has been set to ensure girls’ toilet facilities in every school across the state by January 26, 2027. Permanent sheds at cremation grounds (Muktidham) and other essential infrastructure in rural areas will also be constructed under the VB-G Ram Ji scheme.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma stated that transparency and accountability in development works are top priorities for the state government. Barcodes are being affixed to development projects undertaken in Panchayats; citizens can scan these to access information regarding the specific project. This initiative will enhance transparency in rural development and enable ordinary citizens to participate in monitoring development activities.
At the conclusion of the program, the district’s Minister-in-charge, Guru Khushwant Saheb, expressed his gratitude. On this occasion, Member of Parliament Smt. Kamlesh Jangde and District Panchayat President Smt. Draupadi Kirtan Chandra, along with public representatives, Panchayat office-bearers, ‘Lakhpati Didis’, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and a large number of villagers, were present.
