Chhattisgarh has achieved a significant national milestone in the effective implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and in providing superior health security to beneficiaries. The state has been conferred a prestigious national honor for its outstanding performance in the timely and effective resolution of portability claims.
This honor was presented to Chhattisgarh today at “Arogya Manthan 2026,” organized by the National Health Authority (NHA) of the Government of India at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to mark the completion of eight years of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and five years of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda honored Chhattisgarh for its excellence in resolving portability claims. Dr. Dharmendra Gahvai, the State Nodal Officer for the Ayushman Bharat scheme, received the award on behalf of Chhattisgarh.
Congratulating the entire Health Department team on this achievement, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the state government is committed to ensuring that no eligible citizen is deprived of medical treatment due to financial constraints. The Ayushman Bharat scheme is being effectively implemented across the state with the objective of providing families with the assurance of financial security alongside medical treatment during times of illness. Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ayushman Bharat scheme has provided a strong sense of health security to crores of needy families across the country. In Chhattisgarh, too, health services and administrative systems are being continuously strengthened to ensure quality treatment for eligible families through this scheme.
- No worry about treatment outside the state; portability becomes a strong pillar of health security
Chief Minister Shri Sai remarked that the portability feature of the Ayushman Bharat scheme is particularly crucial for citizens who reside outside their home states for employment, work, or other reasons, or who need to travel to other states for superior medical care. Through this system, eligible beneficiaries can avail cashless treatment at scheme-empanelled hospitals across other states and Union Territories.
He noted that the state government is continuously strengthening the system to ensure that Chhattisgarh’s beneficiaries seeking treatment in other states can easily access the scheme’s benefits and have their claims settled in a timely manner. The national recognition received for the settlement of portability claims is a result of these ongoing efforts.
Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that this national-level achievement is the outcome of the collective efforts of Health Department officials and staff, doctors, hospitals, and everyone involved in the scheme’s implementation. This honor will inspire us to make health services even more accessible, effective, and beneficiary-centric.
The Chief Minister affirmed that Chhattisgarh is moving forward with the resolve of “Public Welfare through Health Security.” Our endeavor is to ensure that a serious illness does not become a cause of financial crisis for any family and that every eligible citizen receives timely, quality treatment when needed.
- Special focus on claim processing and technical monitoring
In the state, continuous and special attention is being paid to the timely settlement of portability claims, focusing on the claim processing system, technical monitoring, coordination with empanelled hospitals, and the resolution of pending cases. Administrative and technical processes are being strengthened to ensure that beneficiaries seeking treatment do not face unnecessary difficulties in availing the scheme’s benefits.
This national-level honor also underscores the fact that the systems developed in Chhattisgarh for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme are playing an effective role in strengthening beneficiary-centric healthcare delivery.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal stated that the national honor conferred upon Chhattisgarh under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is a matter of pride for the entire state. This achievement highlights the collective efforts being made to ensure the effective, transparent, and beneficiary-centric implementation of the scheme in the state.
Shri Jaiswal said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the Health Department is making continuous efforts to ensure that the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme reach the last person in the statereached the people. The state government is continuously improving the quality of health services alongside expanding their reach.
He stated that this achievement is the result of the coordinated efforts of officials, staff, doctors, hospitals, and all stakeholders involved in the scheme’s implementation. In the future, the quality, transparency, and timeliness of claim processing will be further strengthened. The state government aims to provide quality, free, timely, and dignified health services to every eligible family.
- Millions of beneficiaries received treatment nationwide through portability
According to the National Health Authority, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is implemented across all 36 states and union territories of the country. The scheme’s portability feature has played a crucial role in ensuring health security for beneficiaries beyond state boundaries.
As of June 30, 2026, 29.05 lakh inter-state hospital admissions have been authorized nationwide under the portability facility, with an authorized amount exceeding ₹8,383.97 crore. This system is proving particularly beneficial for migrant workers, citizens residing in other states for employment, and families requiring medical treatment outside their home states.
- Healthcare system to be further strengthened through digital technology
Detailed deliberations regarding the next phase of health assurance and digital health also took place during “Arogya Manthan 2026.” Senior officials from the health departments of various states and union territories participated in the event.
Discussions were held on new initiatives aimed at making claim processing more technology-enabled, strengthening the digital health ecosystem, and ensuring the secure and responsible use of health data. Future action plans to make health services more accessible, transparent, and citizen-centric through the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission were also deliberated upon.
