Chess Olympiad 2026 held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. India brought glory to the country on the world chess stage by winning the silver medal in the open category and the bronze medal in the women’s category. Shri Choudhary stated that the Indian players displayed their talent, concentration, patience, and strategic acumen on the chess board. The silver medal in the open category and the bronze medal in the women’s category reflect the excellence of the country’s chess talent.
India also won the prestigious Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy based on the combined performance in the open and women’s categories. This is the third consecutive Chess Olympiad in which India has won this prestigious trophy.
Finance Minister Shri Choudhary stated that these achievements of Indian chess players will inspire a new generation of players to take up chess and excel at the world stage. He congratulated all the players, coaches, and support members of the Indian contingent and wished them a bright future.
