The ‘Hindi Month’ observed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai from
September 1 to September 30, 2026, concluded successfully. Virtually every segment of the
institute—including faculty members, employees, outsourced staff, and
students—participated with great enthusiasm. With over fifteen events and competitions
organized throughout the month, this proved to be the most comprehensive and successful
Hindi Month celebration to date.
The program commenced on September 1 with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, sparking
sustained enthusiasm for creative writing across the institute. Students and staff participated
actively in a wide range of events, from a contest to name the annual magazine to self-
composed poetry writing, essay writing, and a Kavi Sammelan (poetic symposium). The Kavi
Sammelan was a particular highlight, where participants captivated the audience with their
compositions.

Competitions held during the month—such as debates, poetry recitations, impromptu
speeches, and quizzes—provided students with excellent opportunities to showcase their
linguistic skills and self-confidence. Notably, the celebrations were not limited to the
academic community; the institute also organized a special essay writing competition for its
outsourced staff, ensuring that the spirit of Hindi Month reached every corner of the campus.
During a special mid-month session, a message from a Union Minister was shared, and all
attendees took a pledge to embrace Hindi as the Official Language (Rajbhasha). This moment
elevated the Hindi Month celebration beyond a local event, linking it to the national Official
Language policy. Additionally, workshops and group discussions on the Official Language
policy gave participants the opportunity to understand the broader significance of Hindi.

The month-long celebration concluded with a grand ceremony where faculty members,
employees, and students came together to celebrate this successful journey. Additionally, the
winners of all the competitions were honoured with awards. Expressing his delight at the
event’s success, Director Prof. Rajiv Prakash remarked that Hindi is a powerful medium for
our rich cultural heritage and emotional unity, and that such events play a vital role in
strengthening the use of Hindi in daily life.
This ‘Hindi Month’ at IIT Bhilai was not merely an institutional event; it also succeeded in
demonstrating that one of the country’s prestigious technical institutes—situated in
Chhattisgarh—pursues language, literature, and culture with the same seriousness and pride
as it does research and technical excellence.
