Health team walks 8 km to reach Bengpal, tree’s shade becomes hospital

  • A unique initiative of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, 106 villagers received treatment, tests and benefits of schemes.

Where roads end, access to government services often becomes difficult. However, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan aims to reach remote areas where the need is greatest. Fulfilling this commitment, the health department team walked approximately 8 kilometers to reach the inaccessible village of Bengpal, located at the end of Bailadila. Upon reaching the village, a health camp was set up under the shade of a tree, and this shade served as a hospital for the villagers.
On the spot, health staff examined 106 villagers, providing treatment and medical advice. Each villager was tested for malaria. Under the non-communicable disease program, blood pressure and diabetes were checked for those over 30. Pregnant women were registered and children were vaccinated. During the camp, patients suffering from cataracts were identified and referred to the district hospital for further treatment and surgery.

In addition, villagers were provided with Ayushman cards and cards related to the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana for senior citizens over 70 years of age.
This camp in Bengpal was not limited to health checkups, but also served as a means of connecting villagers with various health department schemes. The health workers’ 8-kilometer journey on foot to reach the village is proof that the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare to the last person isn’t limited to paper, but is being implemented on the ground. For the villagers of Bengpal, this camp, set up under a tree, may be a simple health camp, but for the health staff, it embodies the resolve that no matter the distance, the path to service never stops.
