Amid the West Asian crisis, the government is working to ensure fertilizer supplies.

 Amid fears that the supply of imported fertilizers may be affected due to the ongoing tension between the US, Israel and Iran in West Asia, the central and state governments are preparing a comprehensive strategy to ensure the supply of fertilizers to farmers.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the direction of Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chhattisgarh government has taken concrete steps to ensure the availability of fertilizers for the 2026 Kharif season. Due to the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Chhattisgarh has been allocated a target of 15.55 lakh metric tons of fertilizer by the Central Government for the upcoming Kharif season 2026. Currently, approximately 7.48 lakh metric tons of fertilizer is available in warehouses and committees. The state government is striving to ensure that all farmers are allocated adequate quantities of chemical fertilizers with transparency.

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today held a virtual meeting with Agriculture Ministers of all states to inquire about the supply, updated stocks, and distribution arrangements for fertilizers in the states. Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, along with senior officials from state agriculture and related departments, virtually attended the virtual meeting.

During the review meeting, Agriculture Minister Shri Netam informed that Chhattisgarh has been allocated a target of 15 lakh 55 thousand metric tonnes of fertilizer by the Government of India for the Kharif season-2026, which includes 7.25 lakh metric tonnes of Urea, 3 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 80 thousand metric tonnes of MOP, 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of NPK and 2 lakh metric tonnes of SSP.
Currently, 7.48 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer is available in Chhattisgarh.

Minister Shri Netam informed that as on March 30, 2026, a total of 7.48 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer is present in stock in the state, which includes 2,43,717 metric tonnes of Urea, 1,05,631 metric tonnes of DAP, 1,69,109 metric tonnes of NPK, 50,431 metric tonnes of MOP and 1,78,657 metric tonnes of SSP. Thus, a total of 7.48 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer is present in stock.

  • Farmers are being made aware about organic manure and nano fertilizers.

Minister Netam said that in view of the potential shortage of chemical fertilizers due to the West Asian crisis, the department is encouraging farmers to use alternative fertilizers. To this end, the availability of NPK 12:32:16, 20:20:0:13, green manure, organic fertilizers, and nano fertilizers is being increased. Based on the recommendations of the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, awareness campaigns are being conducted for farmers at cooperative societies and private sales centers.

  • E-fertilizer distribution system to start soon

Minister Shri Netam said that to ensure farmers receive fertilizers according to their actual acreage, an e-fertilizer distribution system will soon be implemented in the state. Through this digital platform and mobile app, farmers will receive fertilizers recommended for their crop acreage from nearby sales centers. In the event of excess demand, additional supply will be ensured based on field inspections.

  • Strict monitoring of black marketing and hoarding

Minister Netam said the state government has directed the formation of flying squads and monitoring committees at the district level to prevent the black marketing and hoarding of fertilizers. Strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in fertilizer misappropriation at any level.

  • Production will not be affected

Minister Shri Neta said that with the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the State and keeping in mind the current global conditions, timely availability of fertilizers to the farmers will be ensured, so that production is not affected in the Kharif season.
