Food and Drug Department takes action against illegal trade of fake medicines

  • Appeal to the general public to buy medicines only from authorized medical stores

The Drug Administration is continuously running a campaign against the illegal trade of fake medicines in the state. In this sequence, a few months ago, a major action was taken in the case of seizure of fake medicines from Nagpur Golden Transport, Gogaon. During the investigation, the role of the accused involved in this organized supply chain – Rochak Agarwal (Bijarasan Medicos, Indore), Surendra Kamnani (Prem Prakash Agency, Bhatapara) and Khemraj Bani (Saraswati Medical Store, Sarangarh) came to light, who were arrested yesterday on Monday in Raipur.

In connection with the above case, the department conducted a detailed investigation and seizure at Saraswati Medical Store, Sarangarh, in December. During the inspection, significant evidence related to the storage and distribution of suspect and counterfeit drugs was recovered. This was duly seized and included in the investigation.
Given the seriousness of the case and the possibility of this illegal trade being linked to other states, the departmental team also conducted an interstate investigation and inquiry. Based on the facts obtained during the investigation, a detailed examination of the role of the accused and the network is being conducted.
Currently, prosecution proceedings are underway in the case as per the rules. The department has identified other individuals and institutions involved in the case and is taking necessary legal action against them.

The Food and Drug Administration appeals to the public to purchase medicines only from authorized medical stores and to report any suspicious activity to the department. This type of strict action against counterfeit medicines will continue in the future.
