 Administration’s innovative initiative to increase groundwater level by saving rainwater

  • Under the More Village, More Water Campaign, over 87,000 water harvesting structures have been constructed, and the district ranks third nationally.

The district administration’s campaign, aimed at securing water for future generations and protecting declining groundwater levels, is now showing significant positive results on the ground. Through the Balodabazar administration’s visionary approach and public participation, the district has established a unique identity nationwide in the field of water conservation and enhancement.

    The More Village, More Water Campaign 2.0, launched to promote water conservation in Balodabazar district, has become a mass movement. Under this ambitious campaign, 87,137 water harvesting structures have been constructed in 722 villages, 517 gram panchayats, and nine urban areas. These include works such as soak pits, check dams, pond deepening, and rooftop harvesting. Through these structures, rainwater is being diverted directly into the ground, preventing it from flowing away and being wasted.

    Catch the Rain-Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0 Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a total of 87173 works of water conservation and water enrichment have been entered in the JSA-CTR portal in the district. Rain water harvesting, soak pit 61831 works, Dabri, well, pond, recharge pit, WAT, SCT 7803 works, anicut, stop dam, diversion, reservoir, canal 21 works by Water Resources Department, LBCD, SCT, Gabin, check dam 15259 works by Forest Department (CAMPA), borewell recharge, soak pit, trench 1153 works by Agriculture Department, rain water harvesting 1034 works by Urban Fund, pond deepening, RWH, trench, check dam 72 works by CSR item, Amrit Sarovar and Naveen Talab 51 are included.

National Achievements:
The district currently ranks third on the national stage for the construction of various structures in the field of water management. This achievement not only reflects the efficiency of the administration, but also results from the active cooperation of the area’s farmers, common citizens, and the water conservation vehicle formed in the village. Furthermore, people are being made aware by making water conservation a mass movement.

Improved Groundwater Levels and Agricultural Benefits
These structures, built on a large scale, will significantly improve the groundwater level in the region. This will directly benefit farmers during both the Rabi and Kharif crop seasons. The increased availability of water for irrigation is expected to increase agricultural productivity.

to water conservation will continue this process on an ongoing basis. The goal is to complete over 100,000 structures before the upcoming monsoon season, ensuring that every village in the district becomes water-sufficient.
