- Good Governance Festival 2026 has changed lives, now people are increasing their employment and income on their own.
Some seemingly small supports in life can lead to significant changes for a person. The story of 35-year-old Mr. Purochan Sahu, a resident of Padda Tola village in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh Chowki district, exemplifies such a transformation. Despite suffering from a 75% disability, he never gave up and continued to earn a living through hard work. However, transportation difficulties remained a major obstacle to his dreams.
Mr. Purochan travels from village to village selling ice cream during the summer and bread during other seasons to support his family. With limited resources and physical challenges, traveling several kilometers daily was extremely difficult. Often, the mere difficulty of commuting prevented him from reaching places where he could find better business and greater income.

When his plight was brought to the attention of the Social Welfare Department during Good Governance Festival 2026, he was provided with a battery-powered tricycle. This tricycle became not just a vehicle for him, but a new means of independence and dignity. Now, he can easily reach various villages and markets without assistance. This has not only expanded the scope of his business but also significantly increased his income.
Mr. Purochan explains, “Earlier, commuting from one place to another was very difficult. Fatigue and discomfort often affected work. After acquiring the battery-powered tricycle, my life has become much easier. Now I run my business with confidence and earn more than before. Most importantly, I no longer have to depend on others for even small needs.” He now has new hopes for the future. Roads that once seemed difficult and distant have now become new destinations of opportunity for him. This assistance is providing him not only mobility but also self-reliance, respect, and self-confidence.
Expressing gratitude to the district administration, the Social Welfare Department, and Good Governance Festival, Mr. Purochan Sahu said that this government initiative is bringing real change to the lives of people with disabilities. Their story is a living example of how sensitive governance and timely assistance have the power to transform a person’s life.
