Rotarians should play an active role in environmental protection, upliftment of special backward tribes and breast cancer awareness – Shri Deka

Members of the Rotary Club of Greater Raipur paid a courtesy call and discussed with Governor Shri Ramen Deka at Lok Bhavan today. The Governor offered guidance on various issues related to social welfare.

During the discussion, the Governor praised the social work being done by the Rotary Club and said that it is an organized and service-oriented organization. He said that all institutions and citizens must work together for the development of society and public welfare.
Describing environmental protection as the greatest need of the hour, the Governor said that in Raipur city, concrete and tile enclosures have been made around trees, due to which adequate water and air cannot reach their roots. He called upon Rotarians to cooperate in removing such enclosures and rejuvenating the trees.

He stated that if effective steps are not taken to conserve water and enhance water resources in Chhattisgarh, the state could face a potentially serious water crisis. Collective efforts to revive and conserve water sources are essential now. He urged the Rotary Club to actively participate in this campaign.

Emphasizing the need to raise awareness about the increasing incidence of breast cancer among women, the Governor said that Rotarians can play an important role in this direction by organizing public awareness campaigns. He also expressed his expectation for Rotary Clubs’ cooperation in the upliftment and development of the state’s Scheduled Tribes. He stated that the culture of the Scheduled Tribes is Chhattisgarh’s core identity and heritage, and it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve it. He urged Rotarians to adopt villages dominated by Scheduled Tribes and work in the fields of education, health, livelihood, and social development.
The Governor said that while Rotary Clubs collectively perform excellent work, each member should also engage in individual work that fosters a spirit of giving rather than receiving. This brings spiritual satisfaction and joy to life and also contributes to the welfare of society.

The Governor said that there are many unsung heroes and heroines in society who are doing remarkable work without any publicity. Such individuals should be brought to the forefront, honored, and encouraged. He said that the Rotary Club can play an important role in this endeavor.

He said that social organizations should come forward to bring positive change to the lives of the people of the Bastar region, increasing education, health, and livelihood opportunities. The Governor noted that the Chhattisgarh government is doing good work. Rotarians can help spread the word and raise awareness in this direction.
