Vigyan Bhawan will become a hub of research and innovation

 As part of the initiative to give a new direction to science and research activities in Chhattisgarh, Principal Secretary Shri Sonmani Bora today inspected the Science Centre in Raipur and took stock of the Central Laboratory facility of Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CG COST). He observed the laboratories, technical units and other scientific facilities and gave necessary guidelines for their modernization, expansion of resources and improvement of quality. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, he also took stock of the National Science Museum to be organised in the capital Raipur in the coming month of December and gave necessary guidelines. It is noteworthy that science centres from across the country will participate in this national event.

In a review meeting held after the inspection, Principal Secretary Mr. Bora conducted a detailed review of the work of all branches and laboratories of the Council. He directed that the Science Center’s library be modernized and well-organized, the laboratories be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and research and development activities be more effective. He said that work should be done with a long-term plan to make the Science Center an excellent center of science, research, and innovation in the state. On this occasion, Principal Secretary Mr. Bora also planted a tree in the Science Center campus.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora directed that the benefits of the Council’s scientific facilities should not be limited to the Council alone, but should also be made available to government and private universities, colleges, researchers, and students. He also stressed the need to comprehensively review available resources to make them more useful and accessible, and to widely publicize the activities of science centers through social media to connect youth with science activities.

He directed that the necessary infrastructure and quality standards be developed at Vigyan Bhawan and work towards achieving ISO certification soon. During the inspection, he commended the GIS-based system operating at the Council and praised the DGPS-based map creation methodology.

The Principal Secretary directed the in-charges of all branches and laboratories of the Council to prepare a detailed action plan for the next two years. He also provided necessary guidelines regarding accelerating preparations for the proposed Science City project, developing necessary human resources, creating new positions, and advancing the recruitment process.

He called for a time-bound action plan for the regular maintenance and repair of the scientific equipment and buildings available at the Science Center. He said that regular reviews would be conducted for the center’s smooth operation and effective implementation.

On this occasion, Director General of Chhattisgarh Regional Science Centre and CG COST, Mr. Prashant Kavishwar, Dr. Shirish Kumar Singh, Dr. Amit Meshram, Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Amit Ram, Ms. Pragya Kadam, Dr. Wasim Raza, Curator Mr. Pradeep Kurre and other officers of the Council were present.
