  • Discussion on financial empowerment of Panchayats and various aspects of rural development

Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Shri Vijay Sharma, attended the National Workshop on the Recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission, held in New Delhi. Panchayat and Rural Development Ministers, senior officials, and policymakers from various states participated in the workshop. Extensive discussions were held on issues related to the allocation of financial resources to rural local bodies, strengthening the financial capacity of panchayats, and the effective implementation of the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission.

  The workshop focused on financial autonomy for local bodies, improved service delivery, transparency, accountability, and making the performance-based grant system more effective. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma participated in various technical sessions of the workshop and observed presentations and discussions on issues related to panchayats and rural development.

  • Chhattisgarh gets Rs 11,664 crore grant for rural local bodies

During the workshop, information was shared about the grants proposed by the 16th Finance Commission for rural local bodies. According to the Commission’s recommendations, Chhattisgarh will receive a total grant of ₹11,664 crore from the fiscal years 2026-27 to 2030-31. This includes a basic grant of ₹9,331 crore and a performance grant of ₹2,333 crore. Chhattisgarh’s share in the inter-state grant distribution for rural local bodies has been set at 2.68 percent.

According to the year-wise allocation, the state will get a basic grant of Rs 1,498 crore in 2026-27. In 2027-28, a basic grant of Rs 1,663 crore and a performance grant of Rs 248 crore, in 2028-29 a basic grant of Rs 1,846 crore and a performance grant of Rs 624 crore, in 2029-30 a basic grant of Rs 2,049 crore and a performance grant of Rs 693 crore and in 2030-31 a provision of Rs 2,275 crore and a performance grant of Rs 768 crore has been made.

       This grant will play an important role in development of basic infrastructure, expansion of civic amenities and further acceleration of development works in rural areas through Gram Panchayats and other rural local bodies.
