Jal Jeevan Mission transforms Birhipani in Jashpur, clean drinking water reaches 129 households

  • Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, basic amenities are reaching remote forest villages.
  • Relief for women, reduction in waterborne diseases, positive change in the lives of villagers

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is continuously working effectively to provide clean drinking water to remote and forested areas of the state through the Jal Jeevan Mission. In this context, the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought about a major change in the lives of villagers in the border village of Birhipani, located approximately 100 kilometers from the district headquarters of Jashpur district. Now, clean drinking water is regularly available through taps in all 129 households of the village.

Surrounded by dense forests and geographically inaccessible, this village had long lacked adequate development of basic amenities. Before the Jal Jeevan Mission, villagers relied on traditional water sources like hand pumps, wells, and dhauris for their drinking water needs. During the summer, the water level in these sources plummeted, exacerbating the drinking water crisis. Villagers, especially women and children, had to travel long distances to obtain water. The use of unsafe water also posed a risk of waterborne diseases.

To provide a permanent solution to these problems, an integrated piped water supply system was developed in Birhipani village under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Under the scheme, four high-level water reservoirs were constructed and a pipeline network was laid throughout the village. Through this, all 129 households in the village have been provided with functional household tap connections (FHTCs).

Today, the situation has completely changed. Every family has access to clean drinking water from taps in their homes. This has significantly saved women’s time and labor, allowing them to devote more time to family care, children’s education, and livelihood activities. The availability of clean drinking water has reduced waterborne diseases and increased children’s regular school attendance.

A village-level Water and Sanitation Committee has been formed to ensure the scheme’s long-term operation and maintenance. With the active participation of the local community, the water supply system is being successfully operated, ensuring the scheme’s continued utility.

The villagers expressed their gratitude for the Jal Jeevan Mission, led by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, and said that the availability of tap water in every home has made their lives safer, more convenient, and more respectable. This success in Birhipani village is proof that through effective implementation, public participation, and good governance, a new chapter of development can be written even in remote and forested areas of the state.
