- In Semardarri, 67 lakh 23 thousand liters of rainwater is being recharged into groundwater every day, generating employment of thousands of man-days.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the “More Village More Water Mahabhiyan” under the VBJI Ram Ji Yojana, aimed at water conservation, promotion of natural resources and giving a new direction to rural development in the state, is yielding remarkable results. This campaign is emerging as a permanent solution to the water crisis, as well as an effective medium for employment generation and environmental protection for the villagers. Semardarri Gram Panchayat of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district has become an inspiring example of this, where, due to scientific work done, lakhs of litres of rainwater is being absorbed into the ground every day and enriching the groundwater level.
8,300 staggered contour trenches have been constructed in the Bhata-Tikra, Sheetal Gadha, and Pathra Kodi areas of the Semardarri Gram Panchayat in the Marwahi development block of the district. During the rainy season, approximately 6.723 million liters of water are recharged daily through these structures. This is preventing rainwater wastage, continuously improving groundwater levels, and preserving soil moisture for a long time, providing significant benefits to agriculture and forestry. In keeping with Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s vision, this campaign is not limited to water conservation but is also strengthening the rural economy. Approximately 100 to 120 workers are employed daily in trench construction, and 8,078 man-days of employment have been generated so far. This has increased the income of rural families and created new employment opportunities locally.
The district administration is transforming water conservation into a mass movement, focusing on public participation. Sustainable water conservation projects are being prioritized in various gram panchayats, which will increase water availability in the coming years, make agriculture more sustainable, and strengthen environmental balance. The “More Village, More Water” campaign has emerged as a powerful example of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai’s visionary approach and commitment to nature conservation. This campaign is proving to be an important initiative towards water security, groundwater recharge, environmental protection, rural development, and the creation of self-reliant villages. In the future, such initiatives will serve as an inspiration for other regions of the state and further strengthen the culture of water conservation.
