Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), India’s largest private power transmission and distribution company, has achieved a major global milestone. Following the completion of S&P Global’s new Media and Stakeholder Analysis (MSA) review, AESL has been ranked as the utility company with the highest ESG score globally.
The review rectified the governance-related assessment that had previously impacted the company’s score, resulting in a significant improvement in AESL’s ESG standing. AESL secured an ESG score of 90 out of 100, thereby claiming the top spot in the global utility sector, where the average score stands at 41. Prior to the review, AESL’s score was 81. The company’s disclosure-based Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) score also rose by 17 points year-on-year to reach 90.
AESL demonstrated strong performance across all three key ESG pillars. The company scored 93 in the environmental category, 89 in the social category, and 84 on governance and economic parameters—scores that significantly outperform industry averages. Product stewardship, climate strategy, and human capital management played pivotal roles in this achievement. Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, said, “It is a proud achievement for us to be recognized by S&P Global as the utility company with the highest ESG score globally. This serves as a strong validation of our commitment to sustainable development. At AESL, sustainability is integral to our day-to-day decision-making process.
