Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Bihan has become a powerful tool for change in the lives of rural women. By organizing women through self-help groups, they are being encouraged towards self-employment, economic empowerment, and self-reliance. With Bihan’s support, thousands of women are realizing their dreams, strengthening their families’ financial situation, and establishing their own social identities. Among these inspiring women, Mrs. Meera Singh, a resident of village Malkadol, Bharatpur Block, MCB district, is prominent. An
inspiring journey from struggle to success,
the Pari Mahila Self-Help Group, formed in village Malkadol on December 30, 2017, comprises 10 women. The Block Mission Management Unit of Bihan Mission provided regular training, capacity building, and encouraged the women in the group towards self-employment. Meera Singh has been an active member of the group since its inception. As a simple housewife, she had a strong desire to become financially independent, despite shouldering her family responsibilities. She regularly attended group meetings, followed the group’s 11 principles, and confidently decided to give her life a new direction.
She initially met her family’s essential needs by taking a loan of 15,000 rupees from the group’s revolving fund (RF). Subsequently, the group received 60,000 rupees from the Community Investment Fund (CIF). This financial support gave her dreams new impetus, and she invested approximately 100,000 rupees to start a goat rearing business.
Goat rearing became a new path to prosperity
. With hard work, dedication, and commitment, Meera Singh turned goat rearing into a means of livelihood. Despite limited resources initially, she systematically grew the business. Her hard work paid off, and today her goat rearing business is continuously achieving new heights of success. Currently, she earns a regular income of approximately 10,000 rupees per month from this business and has strengthened her family’s financial situation by achieving a profit of approximately 120,000 rupees annually.
With this income, she has not only met her family’s needs but also ensured financial security for the future. Today, she has become an example of self-confidence, self-respect, and economic independence.
An inspiration for other women,
Meera Singh’s success has sparked a new thinking in the entire village of Malkadol. Seeing her achievements, many women in the village are being inspired to join self-help groups and adopt self-employment.
