Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that for eradication of sickle cell by year 2047, sensitivity, empathy and a commitment to disease eradication are necessary. The sentiment of the work should be to achieve the goal before the deadline. He said that works of Sickle Cell Mission are a means of serving humanity. This is a great opportunity to be a partaker of divine grace.
Governor Shri Patel was reviewing the works of Sickle Cell Mission at Raj Bhavan. Deputy Chief Minister of Public Health and Medical Education Shri Rajendra Shukla and AYUSH Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar were also present in the meeting.
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel received information about the efforts of treatment, management, and control of sickle cell being undertaken by the Health and AYUSH Departments. He was informed that under the mission, from 19 June to 3 July, mega camps will be organized in all gram panchayats, Eklavya residential schools, and hostels. Maximum screening tests will be conducted. Screening will be done using POC kits from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to district hospitals. Daily screening data will be recorded in the portal. Genetic counseling will be provided. Genetic counseling cards will be distributed. Camps will be held at block and district levels for identified sickle cell patients. Expert consultation services will be made available to them. Sickle cell patients will be provided disability certificates and U.D.I.D. cards and will be given the benefit of pensions.
The AYUSH Department informed that in the context of World Sickle Cell Day, camps will be organized in 78 AYUSH dispensaries operating in 20 tribal-dominated districts. Kits of Ayurvedic medicines helpful in treating sickle cell will be distributed. Public awareness activities will be undertaken regarding the conservation and promotion of local herbs helpful in the treatment of the disease. In each village affected by sickle cell anemia, programs like morning processions, yoga practice, and gram sabhas will be organized for public awareness.
In the meeting, Chairman of Tribal Cell Shri Deepak Khandekar, Principal Secretary of Public Health and Medical Education Shri Sandeep Yadav, Additional Secretary to the Governor Shri Umashankar Bhargav, Secretary of the Tribal Cell Smt. Jamuna Bhide, Director of National Health Mission Ms. Saloni Sidana, Commissioner of AYUSH Shri Sanjay Mishra, along with other senior officials were present.
