The four-day long 26th State Level School Sports Competition concluded today with a grand and happy prize distribution ceremony in the Assembly Hall of Multipurpose School Pendra. Players and winning teams who performed exceptionally well were honoured in the function organised under the chief patronage of Korba Lok Sabha constituency’s MP Smt. Jyotsna Charandas Mahant. 540 players and more than 100 officials and trainers from all five divisions of Chhattisgarh participated in the competition and displayed their talent and sportsmanship in various sports disciplines. Bilaspur division emerged as the overall champion by performing excellently in various disciplines of gymnastics, taekwondo, kabaddi and cricket.
The closing ceremony began with the lighting of lamps and garlanding of photographs of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning, and Chhattisgarh Mahatari. On this occasion, students from Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential School, Gaurela, Anita Shiksha Niketan, Gaurela, and Kunjanbai Chowk School, Amarpur Pendra, dressed in traditional attire, presented folk songs and cultural performances, showcasing Chhattisgarh’s rich folk culture.

Chief guest, Member of Parliament, Mrs. Jyotsna Charandas Mahant, congratulated and wished all participants, including those who excelled in the competition. She said that there is no defeat in sports; players either win or learn. Sports are essential for a healthy lifestyle. They strengthen discipline, self-confidence, brotherhood, and goodwill.
She said that players from various regions of the state have displayed excellent talent, hard work, and sportsmanship, which is commendable. MP Mrs. Mahant encouraged the players to never give up in life and to move forward with continuous hard work and confidence to achieve their goals. She said that the sports field teaches struggle, discipline, team spirit, and continuous effort in life. Young people should move forward by making sports an integral part of their lives and bring glory to their family, state, and country.
- Announcement of Rs 30 lakh for development works
At the ceremony, responding to a request from District Panchayat President Ms. Samira Paikra, Member of Parliament, Mrs. Jyotsna Charandas Mahant, announced a total of ₹30 lakh for development work in the area. She also announced ₹20 lakh for the renovation of the Physical College grounds and ₹10 lakh for the construction of a concrete road in Patgaon. These developments will not only improve sports infrastructure but also strengthen local transportation facilities.

District Panchayat President Ms. Samira Paikra said that hosting the state-level school sports competition in GPM district is a matter of pride for the district. Players from across the state showcased their talent and displayed sportsmanship. She wished all the players to continue moving forward with sportsmanship, passion, and confidence.
In his welcome address, Collector Mr. Vijay Dayaram K. felicitated all the players and officials participating in the competition. He congratulated the players for their excellent performance with sportsmanship and wished them a bright future. He said that such competitions provide students with an opportunity to hone their talents, as well as develop discipline, leadership skills, and team spirit. Sports play an important role in the overall development of students.
At the closing ceremony, guests presented awards and honors to the players and winning teams who excelled in various sports disciplines. During the four-day competition, the players displayed their talents with enthusiasm, discipline, and sportsmanship. The successful organization of the competition helped promote sports activities in the district and instilled new energy and enthusiasm for sports among students.
