Elders Honored at ‘Siyangudi’ on International Day of Older Persons; Shri Rajesh Agrawal Seeks Blessings After Presenting Shawls and Coconuts

A special ceremony was organized at ‘Siyangudi’ in Ambikapur to honor the elderly on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ (Service Pledge Campaign). The Chief Guest, Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal, honored the elderly by presenting them with shawls and coconuts (Shriphal) and sought their blessings. A special camp for health and eye check-ups for the elderly was also organized on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal stated that the elderly are an invaluable asset to the family and society. The knowledge and guidance they have gained through a lifetime of experience are extremely important for society and the new generation. The presence of elders in the family not only carries forward values ​​and traditions from one generation to the next but also strengthens the family emotionally.

Shri Agrawal remarked that respecting and serving parents and elders is an integral part of our culture and values. Upholding the dignity and respect of the elderly is the collective responsibility of not just the family, but society as a whole. Respecting and serving parents within the family strengthens the bonds of mutual love, values, and harmony. The new generation, too, should learn from the experience of the elderly and maintain a sense of sensitivity and affection towards them.

He emphasized that the benefits of schemes and facilities run by the government and various organizations for the welfare of the elderly must reach the eligible beneficiaries. The participation of every section of society is crucial in ensuring that the elderly receive respect, security, and necessary amenities in their old age.

Public representatives present at the event also expressed their respect for the elderly and wished them a healthy, happy, and dignified life. Speakers urged people to understand the sentiments of their parents and elderly family members, spend time with them, and attend to their needs.

The enthusiasm of the elderly participants at this International Day of Older Persons event was truly remarkable. Captivating song and dance performances were presented during the program, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. Mr. V.K. Uke, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, provided information about the various schemes and facilities run by the department for the welfare of the elderly.

Keeping the health of the elderly in mind, health and eye check-up camps were organized at the venue. A medical team conducted health check-ups and eye examinations, offering necessary advice and consultations. The elderly were also made aware of the importance of regular health check-ups.

The event was attended by Surguja MP Mr. Chintamani Maharaj, Lundra MLA Mr. Prabodh Minj, Chhattisgarh Housing Board Chairman Mr. Anurag Singhdeo, Zila Panchayat President Mrs. Nirupa Singh, Mayor Mrs. Manjusha Bhagat, Chairperson Mr. Harminder Singh Tinni, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mr. Vinay Kumar Agrawal, and Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Mr. V.K. Uke, along with local public representatives and officials and staff from the district administration.
