Mr. Bajrang (Chhangu), a progressive farmer from Kotriyadand village in the Gaurela development block, has set an inspiring example for farmers in the region by achieving improved production and income through scientific cultivation of bitter gourd on one acre of land under the guidance of the Horticulture Department. Previously, Mr. Bajrang practiced traditional farming, resulting in relatively low production and income. The Horticulture Department provided him with training and regular technical guidance on scientific cultivation of vegetable crops, advanced production techniques, and crop management. Subsequently, he adopted modern techniques such as mulching, trellis (support) system, balanced nutrient management, timely irrigation, and integrated pest and disease management (IPM).
These techniques improved the growth of his bitter gourd crop, yielded quality produce, and a fair market price significantly increased his income. Currently, bitter gourd cultivation has become a profitable business for him. Mr. Bajrang’s success is inspiring farmers in Kotriyadand and surrounding areas to adopt the Horticulture Department’s schemes and adopt scientific farming. This success is proof that by combining departmental guidance, modern technologies, and the hard work of farmers, even limited land can yield higher production and better income. The Horticulture Department’s message is that by adopting scientific farming, farmers can not only increase production but also effectively increase their income and move towards self-reliant agriculture.
