Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur is proud to announce that its student team has achieved outstanding performance in the prestigious 23rd Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot held in Hong Kong.
Competing against leading law institutions from around the world, the HNLU team secured the first runner-up position. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the university’s mooting history and further solidifies its growing reputation in the field of international arbitration.
The team members were the following:

- Shriyuth Singh (3rd Year)
- Shaurya Jha (2nd year)
- Vidhi Choudhary (3rd Year)
- Aditya Maharwal (2nd year)
In addition to the team’s overall success, HNLU also received an “Honorable Mention” for the Claimant Memorandum, reflecting the team’s strong research, excellent drafting, and ability to present compelling legal arguments.
Additionally, Saumya Jain was awarded an Honorable Mention for “Best Oralist”, in recognition of her outstanding advocacy and court presentation skills on the international stage.
The 23rd edition of the VIS East Moot focused on a complex international commercial dispute involving vanilla orchard exports. It provided participants with an opportunity to consider complex questions of contract law, international trade, and arbitration principles within the framework of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and the Arbitration Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
This remarkable achievement underscores HNLU’s academic excellence, rigorous training in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and its ability to compete at the highest levels of global legal education.
